However, up to this point, Kroger has no stores in New England, and as a result, this makes the selling off of our Local 791 locations unlikely. There may be some divesting of stores that is required in order to complete the sale. Kroger and Albertsons operate stores in the same geographical areas. What we do know is that the sale will have to be approved by the Federal Trade Commission, which could present problems in many of the market areas across the Country. As of this writing, no Shaw’s officials have commented on this blockbuster sale, therefore Local 791 is gleaning its information from various news reports.
